It is very simple. It just cost's Rs.750. Not required to approach an agent as the charge between Rs.1200 to Rs.1500. But some appeal they can get the VISA done in 1 day. But i suggest you to get it direct in 2 days which is easier too and cheap.
All that you need are the following:
1. Valid passport
2. Flight ticket/itinerary with return journey
3. Passport size photograph - 2
4. Address of stay - It can be hotel address or address of any know person
5. DD with amount Rs.750 in favor of "Consulate General of Malaysia" payable at Chennai (Can be taken from SBI bank)

Walk in to the above address and get a VISA application form. Fill up the form(IM 47) with the required details.
You will have to mention the Address of Stay in this form(No proof required)
Now the security guy will verify the form, arrange it with the other documents and send you inside.
Give the documents inside the counter, you will receive an acknowledgment slip.
You will be asked to collect the Passport in 2 days. Carry the slip to collect the passport with the VISA stamped.
You can also call up directly to the Cosulate and enquire what is required. They will reapeat what is said above.
